Spanish Sports Daily Marca Publishes Their Top 20 World Players In 2017 Guess How Many City Stars Were Chosen After Their Awesome Season So Far

It has been an interesting season around the major European football Leagues with Manchester City leading the Premier League by 12 points, in Germany Bayern Munich are clear by 11 points, in France PSG lead Monaco by 9 points as is the case in Spain with Barca 9 points up on their nearest rival.

Man City won their Champions League group with ease winning 5 and losing once to Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 on a cold night in Ukraine in what was a dead rubber for City as they had already won the group. City have got a pretty decent draw and will face Basel in the knockout round of the Champions League.

City have been playing flowing attacking football always working for each other and believing in themselves and each other which is down to Pep Guardiola.

As we covered in a recent article Pep is using essentially the same squad as last season to achieve what is now a 21 game unbeaten start to the Premier League is damn impressive.

Plus City are in the EFL Cup semi-finals so we will be fighting on 4 fronts for the potential quadruple.

Man City have been getting plenty of praise and good press from the British media, as it has been hard not to be impressed by some of the football the team has been playing with their winning streak and such easy-on-the-eyes football.

Despite what an amazing season Manchester City have been having, as reported by The Star of the Top 20 World players in Marca’s article there was only one Man City player. That player was Kevin De Bryne in 10th position according to Marca.

Yet included in Marca’s Top 20 were the likes of Marcelo and Toni Kroos of Real Madrid and Juventus’ veteran keeper Gianluigi “Gigi” Buffon.

In addition to City’s De Bruyne, Chelsea star Eden Hazard made the list as did his team-mate N’Golo Kante then David De Gea made it from Man United and then there was Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur who ranked 4th but having only 5 players from the entire Premier League does not read well. There was no place for any players from Liverpool or Arsenal either.

So that was it for City in the Marca Top 20 – no place for Sergio Aguero with 12 goals in 14 Premier League games and recently became the Club’s all-time leading goal scorer, no place for Fernandinho who is having a career year, no place for Ederson who has come into the Premier League and played like he has been here for years with his total command of the goal-keeping position, no place for the talent of Gabriel Jesus who has 8 goals in his 12 league games and then there’s only Raheem Sterling having a career year with 13 goals in 15 league games plus the way the club legend David Silva has played all season long.

Looking at the City stars like the ones mentioned above, they have been in a different class to their so called peers at other clubs this season.

It just shows City need to win a Champions League if they want to earn the respect of their big European rivals as well as their domestic rivals like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Liverpool and it seems as though they have got the right man for the job.
