Spurs Superstar And Chelsea Flop Among The TOP Five Worst Finishers In The Premier League This Season

In this article, we are going to look at the footballers who are statistically the worst finishers in the Premier League this season.

To come up with the top five we have subtracted every top-flight player’s xG from the actual number of goals they have scored in the league.

To say there are some surprises in our top five is an understatement. One player, in particular, is renowned for being one of the best finishers in the world, but not this season.

Press the next page as we list the five worst finishers in England’s top division during the 2021/22 campaign.

5) Joshua King – Watford (-3.0 Goals)

The Norwegian international has really struggled to recapture the form he showed at Bournemouth. After an ill-fated spell during the second half of last season with Everton, it was hoped that a fresh start with the Hornets would see some improvement.

However, King has struggled for confidence in front of goal. The 30-year-old has hit the back of the net just five times in the Premier League despite having an xG of 8.0.

4) Harry Kane – Tottenham (-3.3 Goals)

The Spurs striker started the campaign very poorly, and many have attributed it to the fact that he was still getting over his failed move to Manchester City.

While Kane has improved his finishing as the season has gone on, the England captain’s 16 goals is still some way below his xG of 19.3. For an elite striker, that is pretty poor.

3) Timo Werner – Chelsea (-3.6 Goals)

The German international has not improved during his second year with the Blues and it is looking very likely that the London club will cut their losses on the striker at the end of the campaign.

Werner does work hard, but his lack of quality in front of goal is borne out by the fact that he has scored just four times in the league, with an xG of 7.6.

2) Alexandre Lacazette – Arsenal (-3.8 Goals)

The Gunners captain has been dropped in favour of Eddie Nketiah in recent weeks and the main reason has been his inability to finish the chances he is presented with.

Lacazette is out of contract in the summer and, after bagging only four goals from an xG of 7.8, it would be a surprise if he doesn’t leave the Emirates on a free transfer.

1) Bryan Mbeumo – Brentford (-5.3 Goals)

There has been a lot to admire about the Bees following their promotion from the Championship, and the Frenchman has looked impressive when playing alongside Ivan Toney up front.

It is clear, however, that Mbeumo is not great when given shooting opportunities. 4 goals from an xG of 9.3 is quite appalling.
