Stan Collymore Delivers His Verdict On Gabriel Jesus And Names The Club He Should Join If He Leaves City

Gabriel Jesus hasn’t been the Sergio Aguero replacement that many City supporters would have hoped for but he is still a very good forward, according to Stan Collymore.

The former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker believes that Jesus will likely leave the Etihad Stadium this summer, and he feels that he could be better off joining Chelsea rather than Arsenal:

“I don’t think anyone can say Jesus has filled the boots of Sergio Aguero but his goals-to-games ratio has been very good and, when he has been asked to step up, he has done. There are rumours of Chelsea sniffing around as well and I don’t think Arsenal will be the only club in the race for him this summer.”

“But let’s say Arsenal get him, my general worry and concern about Arsenal, as ever, is could we trust Mikel Arteta to get the best out of Jesus, could he be the manager who makes him fulfil his potential if Pep Guardiola couldn’t? I don’t think so. But if he goes to Chelsea he could be the player Romelu Lukaku was promised to be but wasn’t.”

Jesus made an instant impact when he first arrived in Manchester back in January 2017, but things haven’t gone entirely to plan since then, with manager Pep Guardiola having increasingly looked to use him in wider areas, rather than as an out-and-out striker.

While the 25-year-old has still been effective, coming up with some crucial goals, he is not a key player and he’s rarely been first choice to lead the line. With Erling Haaland’s arrival, his opportunities to play through the middle have diminished even further.

Jesus does look likely to depart City, with only a year remaining on his contract, but fans will be hoping that he doesn’t remain in England.
