Sterling praised by Thierry Henry after impact

Premier League legend Thierry Henry has jumped to the praise of former Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling, after his stellar performances for Manchester City so far this season.

Sterling has been hit and miss since moving to the Etihad, but it’s fair to say this has already been his best season yet.

The England international has hit 12 goals in 18 appearances in all competitions so far this season, and some of the goals he has scored have been vital too – including his most recent against Huddersfield on Sunday – scoring late as City won 2-1.

Henry believes his form at City has come due to the impact of manager Pep Guardiola, who has given the team the guidance to tell them exactly what he wants of them – something the Frenchman argues Sterling doesn’t get at England.

“He needs to know what he has to do, it’s as simple as that. He needs to know the plan, he needs to know the structure and he needs to know what his team are going to do so he can execute it.

“He’s playing with those guys [at Man City] every single day. When you go away with national teams it’s different, everyone has different ideas on how to play and what to do in training.

“What’s the plan with the team in England? How are they playing? I can see clearly what they are doing at Man City and he’s playing in a team that is winning games.

“He is training every day with David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne in a system and you can see that he knows exactly what it is he needs to do.”
