Sterling Reveals How He Reacted To Liverpool Winning The Champions League

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling said he was happy for some of his former teammates at Liverpool after they won the Champions League back in June.

The England international did not leave Anfield on the best of terms when he joined the Citizens from the Reds for £49m in 2015.

However, when he was asked for his reaction to Liverpool lifting the European Cup, Sterling gave this magnanimous response:

“I was really happy for them, happy for some of the players I know to lift the Champions League.”

The 24-year-old did go on to say, though, that he preferred the reward of winning the Premier League and lifting four domestic trophies:

“For me, what we’ve done last season – every day, week in week out – was exceptional. It was a massive stepping stone to have belief in our squad, that belief we’ve been building over these last couple of years.”

After losing out to Tottenham in the quarter-finals last season, though, Pep Guardiola’s side will be determined to go on and progress further in Europe this year.

City have shown domestically that no team can stop them when they are at their best, and fans will be hoping that soon translates to results on the European stage as well.
