Surprise Twist With City Now Favourites To Beat PL Rivals For Uruguayan International Defender

Manchester City are now in pole position to sign Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo if the defender decides to leave the Camp Nou this summer, according to reports in Spain.

Up until now, the Citizens have not really been mentioned as a potential suitor for the Uruguayan international, with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal all believed to be pursuing the centre-back.

However, it seems Pep Guardiola’s side are, indeed, looking to secure Araujo’s services. The 23-year-old is currently involved in a contract dispute with Barca and, as his current deal expires next year, he could be sold at the end of the season.

Araujo is reportedly demanding pay parity with the likes of Ansu Fati and Pedri, who have been handed contract extensions recently but, so far, no agreement on a salary has been reached.

City are said to be poised to take advantage of the situation, if a decision is made to sell Araujo, so we shall see how this transfer story unfolds.
