“Teams Chomping On Their Heels” Owen Delivers Title Warning To Manchester City

Michael Owen believes the title race is “far from over” despite Manchester City stretching their lead at the top of the Premier League table at the weekend.

The Citizens have a three-point lead over closest rivals Liverpool and, while he thinks it will be more of a challenge for Chelsea to make up the ground, Owen thinks both teams could still overhaul Pep Guardiola’s side:

“The title race is far from over. Liverpool can easily make up three points. I think Chelsea six points, it’s a little bit more difficult. But they have to play them still. The only problem for them is that it’s at the Etihad. Manchester City are sitting pretty. It’s always nice to be top at Christmas. History will tell you that it’s the perfect place to be. But they still have teams chomping on their heels.

While Owen is correct in saying that nothing has been won yet, City are beginning to motor. They have won eight league games in a row since they last dropped points in the 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace.

Guardiola’s men do tend to go on long winning streaks and they are very difficult to stop once they get a head of steam. Their past experience of winning multiple titles will also hold them in good stead.

While City will be happy with sitting top at Christmas, they will be hoping to extend their lead at the top over the coming weeks.
