Atletico Madrid are poised to sign Benfica forward Joao Felix for €120m (£107m), according to reports in Spain.
The 19-year-old has been heavily linked with Manchester City, as well as Manchester United and Liverpool, but the number 10 is believed to be close to moving to La Liga.
Supporters on Twitter think missing out on Felix will be a good thing:
Thank god

No way we are going to spend almost twice our most expensive signing

I mean, we could all be wrong and he turns out to be the next ‘Messi’, but it’s a lot of money to gamble. Especially when all eyes are on what we’re spending.

Overrated

Where would he play? How can that amount of money be justified for someone that wouldn’t start? If he’s the ‘next Messi’ buy him in 5 years. It’s a waste of money now.

We don’t need him.He is too expensive .

Don’t think we’ll ever pay a nine figure sum for anybody. So whenever we see one we shouldn’t think too much of it.

Felix definitely has a huge amount of potential but it is hard to see where he would have fitted into manager Pep Guardiola’s side. He traditionally plays behind a striker, but City’s 4-3-3 system would likely mean he would have to take up another role.
City were reportedly planning to go after the Portuguese starlet if Leroy Sane left for Bayern Munich but the Bundesliga side have not come up with a satisfactory bid for the German.
As things stand, Felix is likely to end up at Atletico with his agent, Jorge Mendes, said to be in Spain in order to conclude the transfer.
