“That’s Exciting…” Neville Draws Comparisons With Cristiano Ronaldo And Thierry Henry As He Praises City Ace

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes the Premier League could be blessed with having the best player in the world for his prime years now Erling Haaland has joined Manchester City.

The Norwegian has made a blistering start to life in England with 10 goals in his first six games. However, while he believes that the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Thierry Henry became world-class before moving abroad, Neville thinks the fact that Haaland is here to stay is a very rare occurrence for English football:

“It’s the first time we’ve signed what I believe to be one of the top two or three players in the world for the future. Ordinarily, those players go to Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid or Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo, when he became the best player in the world here [at Manchester United] or maybe Thierry Henry at Arsenal, they didn’t sign as prospects to be the best player in the world, they just developed to being that when they were here. But this player – you fully anticipate he’s going to go on and win Ballon d’Or’s and be the best player in the world. That’s exciting – that’s not happened for quite a while in the Premier League.”

Haaland’s goalscoring record is phenomenal and, if he can stay fit, he may well surpass Mo Salah (32) for the most goals scored in a single 38-game league season.

As Neville says, he could be in the Premier League for a very long time, which is a frightening prospect for opposition defences. In terms of the Ballon d’Or, though, we shall see how things develop over the coming months and years.
