The Best Belgian Players In The Premier League

Belgium’s golden generation may be fading somewhat, as players like former Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen and former Chelsea winger Eden Hazard reach the tail end of their careers. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of talented Belgian players in the Premier League.

For this list, we’ll be looking at players from clubs such as Leicester City, Arsenal, Everton and of course, Manchester City.

Belgium may not be able to match the teams they had in 2016 and 2018 – nevertheless, they’re still a very powerful footballing nation with a plethora of great players at their disposal.

Youri Tielemans

Youri Tielemans’ technical ability is a sight to behold. His passing, dribbling and first touch are all top-notch – his work rate leaves something to be desired, but his raw skills make up for it.

His career began in his native Belgium, where he played for Anderlecht as a youth product. He also played for Monaco in Ligue 1 for a couple of years.

Tielemans now plays for Leicester – 2022/23 hasn’t been the best season of his career, but nevertheless, he still has four goals and a single assist across all competitions for the Foxes.

Amadou Onana

Everton are currently experiencing a thoroughly depressing campaign, with relegation to the Championship looking like a distinct possibility – however, Amadou Onana has proven to be a diamond in the rough.

He’s a technically adept box-to-box midfielder with equally excellent defensive and passing ability. Additionally, he also boasts limitless energy levels.

It’s very hard to believe he’s only 21 – Onana displays footballing maturity well beyond his years on a regular basis.

Timothy Castagne

Adaptable defender Timothy Castagne has been one of the best players within Leicester City’s squad for several years now. Whether he is playing as a right-back or as a left-back, the 27-year-old never fails to impress.

He has been ever-present for Leicester this season. He’s played 29 games in all competitions, picking up three assists and scoring a single goal along the way.

He signed for Leicester in 2020, having played for Genk and Atalanta before this. The Foxes haven’t had their best season – but he’s managed to stand out nonetheless.

Leandro Trossard

Former Brighton winger Leandro Trossard has been excellent since signing for Arsenal – truth be told, he was excellent well before this, too.

A tricky dribbler with brilliant movement, he’s a defender’s nightmare – whether he’s running at you with the ball or trying to escape his marker, he’s a very dangerous player to contend with.

For both Brighton and Arsenal, Trossard has scored eight goals and racked up five assists in 26 games across all competitions.

Kevin De Bruyne

Even though this list is in no particular order, we didn’t feel comfortable putting Kevin De Bruyne anywhere other than the number one position.

What can you say about him that hasn’t already been said? The 31-year-old is arguably the greatest player in Premier League history, with freakish passing, excellent dribbling ability and a work rate that would put most marathon runners to shame.

He’s been at Manchester City since 2015. In that time, De Bruyne has scored 61 goals in 231 appearances.
