The FIVE Current Favourites For The PFA Player Of The Year Award

We are coming to that time of year again when prizes are handed out to players in recognition for their performances over the course of the season.

The PFA Player of the Year award is always fiercely debated, and fans will be banging the drum for their respective player to be given the prize.

To makes things fair, we have taken our odds from one bookmaker, William Hill. Other bookies will have different players as candidates but we have decided to go with this five-man shortlist.

Press the next page as we count down the top five favourites to win this year’s award.

5) Phil Foden – 33/1

The young forward is actually joint fifth favourite for the award, along with Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, but his achievements this season deserve more recognition.

Foden has started 23 league matches over the course of the campaign, scoring nine goals and providing five assists. He has played a key role in City’s push for a second successive Premier League title.

4) Son Heung-Min – 28/1

To be honest, the South Korean’s odds should be a lot shorter, considering he has scored 20 goals and laid on 8 assists in 32 appearances for Tottenham.

You do feel that Son does get overlooked when he has been one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League in recent years. There is even a chance he could snatch the Golden Boot off Mo Salah.

3) Bernardo Silva – 25/1

The Portuguese playmaker was unplayable at times earlier in the season. In his first 14 league games, he had already scored seven times but things have gone pretty quiet in terms of goal contributions since Christmas.

Silva is definitely still contributing a great deal to City’s title challenge but his efforts have been overshadowed by one of his fellow teammates…

2) Kevin De Bruyne – 5/2

The Belgian struggled with injury in the opening weeks of the campaign so it did take him a while to get going, but he has been irrepressible since mid-December.

Despite many pundits praising him for his ability to create chances, De Bruyne has actually been City’s leading scorer in the league this season. His contributions have been vitally important as his team close in on the title.

1) Mo Salah – 2/7

The Egyptian has to be favourite for the PFA prize, having scored 22 goals and contributed 13 assists in the Premier League so far this campaign. However, his form since the African Cup of Nations has been rather poor.

Whether that will have an affect on the voting by PFA members, we shall have to wait and see. Salah’s excellence can often be taken for granted but he is undoubtedly a top-class player.
