The Five Danish Stars Who Have The Most Appearances In The Premier League

Following on from our look at the top appearance makers in Premier League history from Croatia, this week we focus on Danish players.

The Danes have always had a close association with English football, with many fans from the country supporting Premier League clubs.

Players from Denmark have also made their mark and every star on this list has recorded more than 150 appearances in the English top flight.

Press the next page as we countdown the Danes who have made the most appearances in the Premier League era.

5) Daniel Agger (Liverpool) – 175 apps

The centre-back was signed by the Reds for just £6m in 2006, but he spent the next eight years at Anfield, reaching the Champions League final in 2007 and winning the League Cup in 2012.

However, despite being a very good defender, Agger struggled with injuries and he only managed to play more than 30 league games in one season.

4) Christian Eriksen (Spurs) – 226 apps

Tottenham signed the playmaker from Ajax in 2013, beating a lot of competition to the Dane’s signature. Over the next seven years, he became one of the Premier League’s best attacking midfielders.

Eriksen was Spurs’s player of the year on two occasions, and he was named in the PFA Team of the Year back in 2018, but he didn’t win any trophies during his time in London. He departed for Inter Milan in the 2020 January transfer window.

3) Kasper Schmeichel (Man City and Leicester) – 238 apps

Considering the stature of his father, it was a huge challenge to step out of his parent’s shadow, but the Danish international managed it.

After starting life at City, Schmeichel went out on loan and worked his way through the lower leagues before finding his home at Leicester. He was part of the astonishing title win in 2016 and he has established himself as a dependable Premier League level keeper.

2) Peter Schmeichel (Man Utd, Aston Villa and Man City) – 310 apps

The Great Dane won five Premier League medals in seven years at Manchester United before leaving for Sporting Lisbon in 1999.

After two years in Portugal, though, Schmeichel did return to England for two more seasons with Aston Villa and Manchester City before he retired.

1) Thomas Sorensen (Sunderland, Aston Villa and Stoke) – 364 apps

The shot-stopper is remarkably above the two Schmeichels on this list, having spent an astonishing 16 seasons as a Premier League keeper.

At Sunderland, Sorensen was a first-team regular between 1998 and 2003. He then played for Villa where he spent four of his five seasons as their number one. He was Stoke’s first choice during his first two years with the Potters before gradually seeing his game time reduced over a five year period. He ended his career in Australia with Melbourne City.
