The FIVE Premier League Teams Who Have Scored The Most Own Goals

Scoring an own goal can be down to either bad luck or poor technique, depending on the situation the player finds himself in.

An attempted block can sometimes end up in the back of the net, while a bad pass or a poorly executed clearance can also lead to the ball sailing past your own keeper.

Some clubs, though, have been victims of their players scoring own goals more so than others during the Premier League era.

Press the next page as we countdown the teams who have put the ball into the back of their own net the most times over the past three decades.

4=) West Ham – 43

The Hammers have scored quite a few own goals over the years, and the biggest culprit was Anton Ferdinand (scoring four in his professional career)

All in all, though, it looks like most of the OGs were spread around quite a few players. West Ham are seemingly more unfortunate than other teams.

4=) Manchester United – 43

The Red Devils are surprisingly quite high on this list, considering they also had one of the best defences over the last thirty years.

However, the likes of Wes Brown, John O’Shea and Rio Ferdinand all managed to scored 5 or more OGs in their careers individually; most of which came when they were playing for United.

3) Arsenal – 45

Again, like United, considering how solid the Gunners were for the first decade or so of the Premier League, it is interesting to see them feature so prominently for own goals.

Sol Campbell was, though, prone to putting one in his own net, scoring four in his professional career.

2) Aston Villa – 49

Richard Dunne was either very unlucky or extremely clumsy, but probably a bit of both, as he scored a record 13 own goals for the likes of Everton, Manchester City, Aston Villa and QPR.

The Irishman may not have contributed to every OG for the Villans in the Premier League era but he certainly added quite a few to the total.

1) Everton – 55

The Toffees not only suffered at the hands of Mr Dunne but in Phil Neville (5), Dave Watson (4) and Seamus Coleman (4), they have four former players in the top 40 for own goals.

If you were watching Everton at Goodison Park in the late 90s to the early 2010s, you were probably watching between your fingers every time an opponent hit a shot or cross into the box.
