The Most In Form Strikers In Europe’s Top 5 Leagues This Season

In this article, we will be looking at the most in-form forwards in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue One.

We will be comparing non-penalty goals and non-penalty expected goals (xG) to discover which players have been finishing their chances most consistently.

A certain Manchester City player does make our top five, but he doesn’t finish top. Our number one is likely to surprise a lot of people.

Press the next page as we count down the most in-form strikers across Europe’s top five leagues.

=4) Wilfried Zaha – Crystal Palace – 2.3 Goals Higher Than xG

Although the Ivorian international could be classed as a winger, we do feel that, as he has played as a forward, we should include him in our list.

Zaha has a non-penalty xG of 1.7 but he has scored four Premier League goals so far. At 29 years of age, he is now showing the consistency he lacked in his younger days.

=4) Jonathan David – Lille – 2.3 Goals Higher Than xG

The Canadian international has been linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs over the last year but he didn’t really hit the heights expected of him during the 2021/22 campaign.

Things have been different so far this season, though, with David hitting the back of the net five times from an xG of only 2.7.

3) Iago Aspas – Celta Vigo – 3.3 Goals Higher Than xG

After failing to make the grade at Liverpool, the Spaniard returned to his boyhood club Celta Vigo in 2015, and he has gone on to have a very successful career in La Liga.

Aspas is now 35 years of age but he appears to be going from strength to strength, having scored four non-penalty goals so far this campaign from an xG of only 0.7

2) Erling Haaland – Manchester City – 3.4 Goals Higher Than xG

The Norwegian’s presence on this list won’t come as a surprise to anyone. His 6.6 expected goals is eclipsed by the eleven league goals he has actually scored.

Usually, in these cases, strikers revert back to the mean, and the stats start to closely align with their xG as the season goes on but, with Haaland’s excellent finishing ability, that is unlikely to happen.

1) Sheraldo Becker – Union Berlin – 4.9 Goals Higher Than xG

The 27-year-old’s stats are quite remarkable. He has accumulated just 1.1 expected goals at the start of this season but he has scored on six occasions.

Becker is undoubtedly in the form of his life. In his 207 appearances before this campaign, the Surinamese international had scored only 27 times.
