Top Five Left Wingers Of The Premier League Era

Following on from our top five right-wingers last week, we are now going to look at the greatest left-wingers in Premier League history.

Not all the names on the list could be described as traditional wide players, but all five generally played from the left flank for the majority of their time in England.

We have left off some notable names, including the likes of Marc Overmars and Robert Pires, which was difficult to do considering their impact in the Premier League but the players who we have gone with all merit inclusion.

Press the next page as we look at the five best left-wingers of the last thirty years.

5) Sadio Mane

Although the Senegalese international did start out his career with Southampton and Liverpool as a right-winger, he has had the most success over the last three seasons playing on the left-hand side.

Last campaign, Mane bagged 22 Premier League goals, making him the joint golden boot winner, alongside Mo Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

4) Gareth Bale

The Welshman may have gone on to greater heights at Real Madrid but at Tottenham, he scored 56 goals and provided 58 assists in just 203 appearances.

Bale was at the peak of his powers during his final year at Spurs, scoring 21 league goals in the 2012/13 season. He also won the PFA Player of the Year award on two separate occasions.

3) David Ginola

The Frenchman burst onto the scene when he was brought to English football by Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan in 1995, with Magpies narrowly missing out on the league title.

Ginola continued to impress after his move to Tottenham in 1997, where he was named the PFA Player of the Year and the Football Writers’ Footballer of the Year during the same year in 1999.

2) Eden Hazard

Undoubtedly one of the most skilful players to have graced the Premier League, the Belgian won the title on two occasions and scored double figures in five of his seven league campaigns with Chelsea.

During the title-winning season of 2014/15, he picked up the PFA Player of the Year for his performances, which saw him score 14 league goals and 19 in all competitions.

1) Ryan Giggs

The undisputed number one in our opinion. The Manchester United legend won an incredible 13 league titles during 24 years at Old Trafford.

Giggs’s numbers speak for themselves. With 109 goals and 159 assists in 632 Premier League appearances, he is undoubtedly the best-left winger to play in the Premier League era, and probably one of the greatest ever.
