TOP Five Players Who Have Had The Most 25 Goal League Seasons Over The Past 20 Years

Consistency is a precious commodity at the top of world football, and it is especially rare to find a forward who can hit the back of the net regularly year in, year out.

Some strikers can go through purple patches, while others have excellent one-off campaigns, but the really world-class players are the ones who score throughout their careers.

In this list, we look at the very best finishers over the past two decades, ranking footballers based on how many times they have scored more than 25 goals in a single season.

Press the next page as we count down the most consistent goalscorers in Europe since the year 2000.

5=) Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani – Four

The Uruguayan pair have matched each other in terms of racking up 25+ league goals in four separate seasons. Suarez first managed it in his final year with Liverpool before reaching the milestone on three more occasions during his time at Barcelona.

Cavani did it twice for Serie A side Napoli, before also achieving the feat in two different campaigns at Paris Saint-Germain.

4) Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Five

Considering the Swedish legend’s long career, it is not surprising to see him pretty high up on this list. His first two 25+ goal league seasons came in Italy; one for Inter and the other for their city rivals AC Milan.

Ibrahimovic’s next three goal-laden campaigns were recorded in his spell at PSG, where he spent four years between 2012 and 2016 before his free transfer switch to Manchester United.

3) Robert Lewandowski – Six

The Polish international has gotten better with age; all six of his 25+ goal seasons have come in his last seven years as a player at Bayern Munich. This campaign alone, Lewandowski racked up 35 in the Bundesliga despite being 33 years of age.

It does appear as if the striker is now keen on leaving Bayern, with Barcelona his preferred destination, so we shall see what happens if he does make the switch to Spain.

1=) Lionel Messi – Twelve

The Argentinian great is just on a completely different plane to pretty much everyone else on this list. Up until this season, he had recorded 12 straight seasons with 25 goals or more.

It must be said that the move to PSG hasn’t exactly gone to plan, with his goal tally taking a serious hit. He managed just six for the Ligue One champions this campaign.

1=) Cristiano Ronaldo – Twelve

The Portuguese forward has matched Messi like-for-like in terms of his goal output over the past thirteen years, with his first 25+ goal season coming during his final year at Manchester United.

There were nine more fruitful campaigns at Real Madrid before another two at Juventus. Like Messi, Ronaldo hasn’t quite hit the heights this year, but he still managed to score 18 times in the Premier League following his return to Old Trafford.
