“United Will Take Him!” Ferdinand Says He’s Baffled By Pep Decision As He Calls On Rivals To Make Move For City Ace

BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand has questioned Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s treatment of Raheem Sterling.

The 26-year-old has started only two games so far this season, and Ferdinand says that teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool should be looking to snap him if he is allowed to leave the Etihad Stadium:

“I’m baffled by it, I just don’t understand. With Pep, he gets things right more often than not, but with this one there must be clubs sitting there going ‘let’s see how this pans out’ because I would take Sterling all day! If I’m Liverpool, I’d buy Sterling tomorrow … If I’m him, I wouldn’t go to Barcelona or Real Madrid right now, that’s why I said Liverpool … Man United will take him!”

Reports suggest that Sterling had a falling out with Guardiola back in April and that has led to a standoff over the player’s new contract. His current deal has less than two years left to run with no indication that an extension will be signed.

Ferdinand’s suggestion that either United or Liverpool would be first in line for Sterling seems a bit fanciful, though. The Citizens are unlikely to sell to a direct rival, while both teams already have a wealth of options in Sterling’s preferred position.

The winger may well get more starts as the season wears on, and you cannot even rule out the possibility that the England international will put pen to paper on a new contract.
