Manchester City are interested in signing AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, according to Calciomercato.com.

Chelsea were the team locked in talks with the Rossoneri before the transfer window closed earlier this month but no agreement was reached ahead of the deadline.

Leao has a release clause reported to be worth €150m (£130m) and it was reported that he wouldn’t be sold unless a club decided to pay the buyout fee.

However, the Portuguese international has less than two years left on his contract at the San Siro and, if he doesn’t sign an extension, a decision will have to be made soon on whether to sell him.

Calciomerato claim that Leao is “very much liked” by City manager Pep Guardiola, which suggests that the Premier League champions could well join Chelsea and others in pursuing the player either in January or next summer.

While the 23-year-old may not end up costing €150m, the fee is still likely to be close to City’s £100m club record transfer, which they paid for Jack Grealish.
