Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has been selected as WhoScored.com’s Player of the Week, after his goal and assist in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend.
The Belgian was given a 9.23 rating, which meant he edged out Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus, Liverpool’s Luis Diaz as well as Nottingham Forest pair Neco Williams and Dean Henderson for the accolade.
Supporters on Twitter felt that recognition for De Bruyne’s performance was well deserved, although a few thought that his former teammate Jesus would also have been a worthy winner:
Was there any doubt 😊

Considering his form since the turn of the year, De Bruyne should be a serious candidate for the Ballon d’Or but, as we have seen in previous years, winning the Champions League or a major international tournament have a big bearing on where the award goes.
At the moment, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema looks a dead cert, with most bookies making him odds-on favourite by a sizeable margin.
