Manchester City star Raheem Sterling has been named the Football Writers Association Player of the Year.

The winger missed out for the PFA Player of the Year award to Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk last night but was given the Young Player of the Season.

It caps off a remarkable campaign for Sterling who has established himself as a key player for both club and country. Fans on Twitter were delighted for the player:

Sterling’s stats this season are extremely impressive, scoring 23 goals and making 17 assists in all competitions. The 24-year-old now has the exact same numbers as last season, showing the wide man is developing a level of consistency in his performances.

Much of the credit for that must go to manager Pep Guardiola and his coaching team, who have developed a talented young player into one of Europe’s most effective attackers, using his pace and dribbling ability to devastating effect.
