Wenger Pinpoints Why City Are Not As “Dominant” This Season As He Delivers Title Verdict

Ex-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Manchester City’s defence has caused them major problems this campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s side have already conceded 24 times in the Premier League, which is only two shy of the number they let in for the whole of last season. Wenger claims that weakness could help Arsenal’s chances of winning the title:

“The usual threats in the Premier League are out of the race. The only threat is Manchester City, and even they aren’t as dominant as last year, or the two years prior. Since the start of the season, City are more vulnerable defensively, which hasn’t been the case in recent years. I feel as though you win it when you can and when you’re not worrying about the rest; you let others talk and you take the title.”

City’s defensive setup has been the subject of a lot of discussion among supporters. Guardiola is known for his left-field tactical decisions but deploying Bernardo Silva as a fullback, as well as Jack Grealish as an auxiliary wingback, has left many scratching their heads.

The departure of Joao Cancelo in January has been an issue, but the club did sign Sergio Gomez last summer and his absence from recent squads has been baffling, considering the lack of options on the left flank.

It’s likely that Guardiola simply doesn’t rate him, but that doesn’t mean you should be playing Silva and Grealish out of position instead!
