West Ham Eyeing Deal For £23m City Star Before Window Closes

West Ham are interested in signing Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi, according to TNT Sports LA.

The website reports that Hammers boss, and former Citizens manager, Manuel Pellegrini wants to recruit the Argentinian international before the transfer window closes next week.

Otamendi was signed by Pellegrini during his final season in charge at the Etihad Stadium and he seems to be keen to link up with the 31-year-old for a second time.

City are, though, reportedly demanding €25m (£23m) for the centre-back which could prove a major stumbling block for West Ham.

The Irons have limited transfer funds after spending £45m on Eintracht Frankfurt striker Sebastien Haller and £24m on Villarreal’s Pablo Fornals.

In any case, City boss Pep Guardiola will likely want Otamendi to stay put this summer. Especially after the departure of captain Vincent Kompany, he would be reluctant to see another experienced centre-half leave.

The Manchester club have actually been trying to add to their ranks at the back, and they would surely be unwilling to sell a defender with very little time remaining before the transfer deadline.
