BBC pundit Alan Shearer is expecting Manchester City to retain the Premier League title this season.
Although Arsenal are currently top of the table by one point, Shearer doesn’t believe the Gunners or any other team will finish ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side. He also expects both Liverpool and Tottenham to finish in the top four:
“Manchester City will, without doubt, win it. I still think Liverpool will, without doubt, improve. They haven’t had the start that they wanted. I think Tottenham will be really strong. I think with the forward players they now have, you add Richarlison to that forward line on top of what they had last season. So, they will go out and win games. I expect Man City, Liverpool and Tottenham (to finish in the top four).”
In terms of who he believes will take fourth spot, Shearer went for Arsenal ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United, after seeing Mikel Arteta’s team’s strong start to the campaign.
The bookmakers certainly agree with Shearer’s prediction, with the Citizens odds-on to finish top. The Manchester club haven’t looked convincing in every match, with the performances against Newcastle and Crystal Palace being below their usual standards, but 17 points from their opening seven games is not a bad return whatsoever. They will be looking to maintain their strong start when they face United at the Etihad this weekend.
