Wolves unwilling to sell Ruben Neves despite Manchester City interest

Wolves will not let midfielder Ruben Neves leave the club this January despite interest from both Manchester City and Manchester United.

Neves has enjoyed a fine start to life in the Premier League with newly promoted Wolves, leading to speculation he could be on his way out of Molineux after the New Year.

Reports last month suggested Manchester City were ready to launch a sensational £60 million bid for the Portugal international, with Pep Guardiola keen to add numbers to his midfield.

The City boss missed out on top targets Fred and Jorginho to Manchester United and Chelsea respectively, and also lost star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to injury early on in the season.

And Manchester United have now emerged as another potential suitor for Neves in recent days, with Jose Mourinho eyeing the 21-year-old as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba, who has been heavily linked with a move to either Barcelona or Juventus.

But the Manchester Evening News report Wolves will not let Neves go in January as they look to ensure their Premier League status for next season.

Neves has established himself as one the club’s most important players already this term having scored one and assisted one goal, and manager Nuno Espirito Santo does not want to see him leave.

Wolves are also reported to be un-tempted by the big fee City or United would be willing to pay for the midfielder, despite having spent over £60 million on new players during the summer.
