“Yeah, It Can Happen…” Guardiola Admits To Pondering Key Tactical Change Ahead Of Chelsea Clash

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he is considering playing both Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland in upcoming fixtures.

Alvarez has only recently returned to the squad after his heroics for Argentina at the World Cup but, after making a cameo appearance against Everton at the weekend, Guardiola hinted that he may look to deploy two forwards against certain opponents:

“Yeah, it can happen. The ball arrives there, and you have two strikers that are going to score goals. But to create these chances, you have to make the process, and sometimes you need other types of players to create these chances. But, of course, they can play together, especially against five at the back.”

City take on Chelsea in the league at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night, before facing them again in the FA Cup at home on Sunday. It would be a bold decision to go with both Alvarez and Haaland in such high-profile matches but Guardiola has never been afraid of making major tactical changes.

Alvarez’s confidence will be sky-high after an outstanding World Cup so finding a place for him in the starting lineup, alongside Haaland, seems like a good idea. We shall see if Guardiola goes through with the plan later this week.
