Borussia Dortmund are reportedly considering a transfer move for Manchester City starlet Cole Palmer, according to a report from German sports media outlet BILD.

Dortmund have a knack for signing young English players and developing them into superstars – for example, both Jadon Sancho and Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham have gone through this process. Could Palmer be the next player to do so?

Though Cole Palmer is not a regular first-team player at the Etihad Stadium, the Citizens should nevertheless fight tooth and nail to keep him at the club.

City have let promising young talents slip through their fingers in the past – a notable example of this is Jadon Sancho, who now plays for City’s bitter rivals, Manchester United.

Despite this, now aged 21, it could be argued that Palmer should have more of foothold in the first team – but he is not on the level of Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva or Phil Foden just yet.

His time with the Sky Blues could be running out – if he does not make a definitive statement to Pep Guardiola soon, he could be playing his football in the Bundesliga for Dortmund next season.

Born in Wythenshawe, Manchester in 2002, Palmer joined the Manchester City academy in 2010, when he was just eight years of age.

He swiftly progress through the Sky Blues’ youth ranks, turning in impressive performance after impressive performance. In 2020, he finally signed a professional deal with the club after ten years in their academy.

Since then, Palmer has made 28 appearances for the Citizens, scoring four goals – primarily, he has featured in League Cup and FA Cup games.

Additionally, Palmer has also been a mainstay of England’s youth teams. He has played for the Three Lions at under-15, under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-21 levels, scoring seven goals in total. He has, however, yet to play for England’s senior national team.
