Gabriel Jesus Makes Claim About His “Relationship” With City Star After On Field Clash Last Weekend

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus says he is still on good terms with Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson despite their clash on the pitch during the game between the 2 clubs last weekend.

In a bid to waste time in the closing stages of the match at the Emirates on Sunday, Jesus kicked the ball away from Ederson, leading the City No.1 to push over his Brazilian international teammate. Both were booked for the incident but Jesus claims there are no hard feelings between the pair:

“I have a good relationship, not just with Ederson. But on the pitch it’s normal. Ederson and I spent a lot of time together at City and we were very happy. He knows how fond I am of him and I also know how fond he is of me.”

“But on the pitch he defends his team and I defend mine. It was a moment when we were winning and it’s not easy to beat them. We were winning and I held the ball there. Anyway, he ended up giving me a push, but afterwards everything was normal. We came together talking. That’s it.”

Emotions boiled over between two ex-teammates

As Jesus mentions, it is not surprising that with, so much at stake on the pitch, the two players put their friendship aside to battle it out for their respective teams.

It demonstrates the competitive edge you need to have to be an elite footballer, with the desire to win placed above everything else.

Ederson will be hoping to get his own back on Jesus when the teams next meet

It will be a while before City play their title rivals again, unless the two sides face each other in a cup competition. The reverse league fixture at the Etihad takes place at the end of March.

After slipping to a 1-0 win defeat on Sunday, Ederson will undoubtedly be keen to get revenge when he next crosses paths with his former teammate.
