Jame Carragher Claims City Now Have Their Very Own Didier Drogba In Their Ranks

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has compared Manchester City striker Erling Haaland to Didier Drogba.

Assessing his performance against Burnley on Monday Night Football, Carragher said that he noticed one incident from the game at Turf Moor where Haaland’s hold-up play closely resembled the Chelsea legend:

“What I love about this is… Foden just has a little look over his shoulder. He flicks it round the corner, and then that (Haaland shrugs off the defender with ease). That takes me back to playing against Didier Drogba. Someone who just pins you, uses his body.”

There are definitely some striking similarities between the two players. Both are able to physically bully opposing defenders if required, whilst being very strong in terms of their finishing ability.

You would still argue that Drogba is stronger than Haaland in terms of aerial ability but, when it comes to sheer goalscoring instincts, Haaland has the edge.

A perfect fit for the Premier League

As Gary Neville explained in his own post-match analysis of the Burnley match at the weekend, City have the ability to change things up, especially with Haaland in the team.

While, in the past, they used their technical ability and passing range to outplay opponents, they now also have the option to use their physicality, with Haaland being one of their best weapons for that approach.

City will hope Haaland continues his fast start in their next two fixtures

The treble winners have two big games coming up, with Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night before a tough home match against Newcastle in the league on Saturday evening,

With Haaland starting the season like a house on fire at Burnley last week, City supporters will be looking for more of the same from the Norwegian international in upcoming fixtures.
