“I Still Suspect…” – Gary Lineker Makes City Prediction After Title Rivals Arsenal Falter

BBC presenter Gary Lineker is still sticking with his prediction that Arsenal, not Manchester City, will win the Premier League this season.

The Gunners have now lost back-to-back games after losing to Fulham at the weekend and, while Lineker says he won’t change his mind on who will win the title, he still feels that City may end up finishing top:

“I did [pick Arsenal], I did, only to be contrary to you two who had both gone for the obvious choice of Manchester City, I still suspect it probably will be Manchester City, but I’m not changing, even though I’d rather Tottenham win the league and Aston Villa are in there.”

You do get the feeling that Lineker is hedging his bets somewhat. He doesn’t want to abandon his original pre-season prediction but he knows City are coming on strong and could leave Arsenal in the dust.

City’s next 5 fixtures

Next up, Pep Guardiola‘s side travel to Newcastle, before hosting Burnley at the Etihad. They then face Brentford away from home before taking on Chelsea (h) and Bournemouth (a).

There are a few tricky games in there but you could see the Cityzens taking 13 points from a possible 15 if all goes to plan. You can’t rule out a draw away at either Newcastle or Bournemouth.

Arsenal’s next 5 fixtures

After losing to both West Ham and Fulham, the Gunners know they will need to get the 3 points when they take on Crystal Palace in their next league fixture later this month.

Following the Eagles, Mikel Arteta’s team have an away trip to Nottingham Forest before hosting fellow title rivals Liverpool at the Emirates. They also have to play West Ham again at the London Stadium and Burnley (a).
