Mikel Arteta Has His Say On Who Will Be Challenging For The Title This Season

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that he has no idea who will be competing for the Premier League title.

Despite Manchester City having finished top in five of the last six seasons, the Gunners boss is adamant that 1st place is very much up for grabs this campaign:

“I don’t have a clue who is going to be involved. We want to be there. The league is so demanding.”

There are only 3 points separating the top four teams at the moment, with Tottenham, Arsenal,  City and Liverpool all in the mix after 8 games played.

As Arteta says, there appears to be a fair amount of unpredictability about how things will turn out ahead of a key period of the season between now and Christmas.

City’s recent form has raised doubts about their title chances

3 defeats in 4 games is a very poor run for a team like Manchester City, who have prided themselves on their consistency, especially since the arrival of Pep Guardiola as manager back in 2016.

Fans will be hoping that the Citizens are only experiencing a minor wobble, rather than anything more serious.

The bookmakers are still backing Guardiola’s men to finish top

While Arteta seems rather uncertain about this season’s title contenders, the bookies remain confident that City will end up clinching another league title.

Every single betting firm in the UK has the Manchester club as odds-on for top spot. Arteta’s Arsenal are still second favourties for most, with Liverpool having slightly longer odds.

Despite Spurs being 1st heading into this weekend’s matches, there is less confidence that Ange Postecoglou’s side can stay the course. William Hill have priced them at 9/1 but others currently have the London side at 14/1.
