BBC Sport pundit Robbie Savage fully expects Manchester City to retain their title this season.

Pep Guardiola’s side are now within two points of league leaders Liverpool after coming from behind to beat Brentford 3-1 on Monday night. Speaking in the aftermath of the game, Savage said:

“What do I think? I think there are three teams in it. I agree with Rob. Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City are the three teams and Man City will win it.”

City could go top of the table if they win their game in hand (which is played against Brentford later this month) so the title is very much in their hands at the moment.

There is the potential for a long winning streak with City’s fixture list

After beating the Bees, the Cityzens have won five consecutive league games. Despite being without Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne for most of that period, Guardiola’s men have rebounded from a slightly dodgy spell before Christmas.

When you look at the fixtures coming up as well, there is scope for the team to put together an extended run of victories. They now have three consecutive home matches, facing relegation-threatened Everton this weekend, before games versus Chelsea and Brentford.

City don’t have to take on a top 10 opponent before the start of next month when they host Manchester United at the Etihad. They then play fellow title contenders Liverpool a week later.

City have no injuries

With Haaland and De Bruyne back in the squad, the reigning champions have no fitness problems to speak of, which gives them a fantastic chance to put together a formidable run of form.

After the Everton clash, though, City will have to play every few days, so we shall see how long the first-team squad’s clean bill of health lasts.
