City Player Ratings V Manchester United: Bernardo Silva Gets 9/10 While 3 Other Players Get 8

Manchester City were fully deserving of the three points as they secured a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.

Despite a few scares early on, the Premier League champions had almost complete control of the game and, on another day, they could have easily won by more.

After some unconvincing performances recently, manager Pep Guardiola will be heartened by what he saw at the weekend as they look to keep up the pace with the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool at the top of the table.

Manchester City Player Ratings v Manchester United

Ederson – 7/10 – made a very good save from McTominay at the end of the first half but, other than that, the Brazilian was pretty untroubled.

Kyle Walker – 5/10 – set up an early chance for Foden, whose header was saved by Onana. There were, however, a few too many loose passes from the fullback which Guardiola won’t be pleased with, and he failed to track Marcus Rashford for his chance in the second half.

John Stones – 7/10 – made a crucial intervention, nicking the ball off Rasmus Hojlund, which forced the Dane wide when he could have been one-on-one with the keeper. The defender was also excellent when playing out from the back.

Ruben Dias – 7/10 – kept Hojlund quiet for the most part and he was commanding when he needed to be.

Josko Gvardiol – 5/10 – it was an erratic game from the Croatian, who gave the ball away needlessly a couple of times early on before settling into the match. He also tried to help out Jack Grealish with some overlaps but his final delivery was found wanting.

Rodri – 8/10 – won the penalty, but it was his overall performance that stood out. He absolutely dominated Amrabat, Eriksen and McTominay. The Spaniard is a world-class holding midfield player.

Bernardo Silva – 9/10 – the best player on the park by a mile. Got an assist for Haaland’s 2nd goal but he popped up all over the pitch throughout the match and United couldn’t handle him.

Phil Foden – 8/10 – wasn’t quite as influential as Silva, but he linked up well with his Portuguese teammate and Jack Grealish in particular. Got the important third goal, catching out a sleepy United defence to slot home a cutback from Haaland.

Julian Alvarez – 6/10 – one of the Argentine’s least impressive games this season. The only highlight was the free kick that Onana easily tipped over the bar.

Erling Haaland – 8/10 – converted both his goals well, but he could have easily had 4 or 5 with the chances he had.

Jack Grealish  – 7/10 – troubled Diogo Dalot all evening, and he played a key role in the build-up to City’s 2nd goal with the pass to Silva.

Substitutes

Mateo Kovacic – N/A – brought on to see out the match.

Jeremy Doku – N/A – replaced Grealish with minutes left to go.
