Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola “wants” to bring Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala to the Etihad, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.

The German journalist, who has strong connections at Bayern, claims that the Premier League champions could battle Liverpool for the 20-year-old’s signature:

Musiala has impressed onlookers with his performances over the last 12 to 18 months and his Transfermarkt value has now risen to €110m (£96m).

Other journalists have already said it would take in excess of £100m to buy the German international but a lot depends on contract talks between the player and Bayern.

There are no active negotiations regarding a new deal for Musiala

Speculation about Musiala’s future has increased after it emerged that Bayern have not even begun talks over a contract extension with the player, despite his good form.

The Bundesliga champions feel that, with his current deal expiring in 2026, there is no rush to start negotiations but, with the midfielder currently earning just €5m a year (£84,000 a week), a pay rise of some sort is due.

It could be that Musiala’s agents have linked both City and Liverpool with the player in order to bring Bayern to the negotiating table but we shall see have things play out.

If Musiala joins City, it wouldn’t be the first time he has played in England

The German was in Chelsea’s youth team prior to making a move to Bayern. He left the London club’s academy in the summer of 2019 at the age of 16.

Musiala was eligible to play for England until he made his competitive debut for Germany in 2021. He did make appearances for the Three Lions at youth level.
