Manchester City and Arsenal are “following” Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra, according to Sport Italia.

The Italian TV channel claims that the two Premier League teams “could make an offer” for the Spanish Under 21 international this summer.

Guerra’s performances have caught the eye this season, having established himself as a regular starter for Valencia.

The 20-year-old broke into the starting eleven at the back end of last campaign and he has already become a key player for Los Ches.

How much would Guerra cost?

The Spaniard signed a four-year contract in May last year, and it has been claimed that a €100m (£85.4m) buyout clause was inserted into the agreement.

However, subsequent reports have suggested that Valencia would be happy to sell Guerra for less than half the price, for around €40m (£34m).

City may also have to battle other Premier League teams

In addition to Arsenal, the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle have also been credited with an interest in Guerra. It is believed that the Red Devils, in particular, have been keeping close tabs on the player.

Scouts have been sent to watch Guerra on a regular basis this season, with contact with the midfielder’s representatives having already been made.

However, if City do get involved, they will still have a good chance of recruiting the youngster. They likely have good contacts at Valencia, having signed Ferran Torres from them a few years ago.

While United may well have a head start in talks, the prospect of playing for the Premier League and European champions may turn Guerra’s head.

You do feel that it’s a deal that Pep Guardiola‘s side are more likely to press ahead with if Kalvin Phillips leaves the Etihad on a permanent basis. The England international is currently on loan at West Ham until the end of the season.
