Romano Reveals City Hope To Seal £51M Transfer “This Week” Despite “Competition” For 21 Year Old’s Signature

Manchester City are hoping to wrap up a deal for Rennes winger Jeremy Doku “this week”, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist claims a “verbal” offer between €55m (£47m) and €60m (£51m) has been made for the Belgian international:

As Romano mentions, the Premier League champions have already got the approval of the player, who is keen on a switch to the Etihad Stadium, although there is said to be “competition” for Doku’s signature.

It appears that the Citizens are looking to get a deal over the line before Sunday’s game against Sheffield United.

Two other Premier League clubs have been linked with Doku

West Ham have been credited with an interest in the Belgian and there was even a report over the weekend that the Hammers had an opening bid rejected by Rennes. That could be why City are stepping up their pursuit of Doku with their own offer now.

There have also been rumours that Chelsea could get involved, having failed to land Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise after the Frenchman signed a new contract.

City need to add numbers before the transfer window closes

Despite Riyad Mahrez having joined Al Ahli at the end of July, Pep Guardiola’s side have still not replaced the Algerian international even though the transfer deadline is fast approaching.

With the club also being without Kevin De Bruyne for a number of months, there is a distinct lack of depth in terms of creative players. For that reason, bringing in someone like Doku, who can offer a lot in the final third, is essential.
