Manchester City are “admirers” of Wolves winger Pedro Neto, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

Although there is no guarantee that the Portuguese international will leave Molineux at the end of the season, he is not short of potential suitors.

Pep Guardiola’s side are just one of five Premier League clubs weighing up whether to make a bid for Neto this summer.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and (potentially) Manchester United are believed to be keen on securing the 23-year-old’s signature, who has impressed with his performances this campaign.

Neto has an eye-watering asking price

With the interest in the player being so high, Ornstein claims that Wolves could demand as much as £80m for the forward.

The possibility of additional prize money from finishing higher up the table than anticipated has also influenced the Midlands club’s decision to increase their valuation.

City are, though, in the market for a left-footed winger. They sold Cole Palmer to Chelsea last summer and they didn’t replace Riyad Mahrez following his departure to Saudi Arabia.

For that reason, a move for Neto may be seriously considered. Left-footed forwards are a rare commodity and Wolves clearly know that based on their decision to put such a high price tag on him.

Should City take a gamble on an injury-prone player?

Neto’s record in all competitions this season is mightily impressive. The Portuguese star has scored 3 goals and contributed 11 assists in just 19 appearances.

However, he has also spent a good deal of time on the sidelines with a hamstring problem. Injuries have plagued him for much of his career so far.

Since moving to Wolves four and a half years ago, Neto has also suffered serious knee and ankle injuries. Spending £80m on someone who has such a chequered fitness record would be a major risk.
