‘Currently No Plans’ Report Reveals City Will Not Make Official Bid For 60M Rated Portuguese Teenage Prodigy

Manchester City “currently” have “no plans” to make a bid for Sporting Lisbon left-back Nuno Mendes, according to Goal‘s City correspondent Jonathan Smith.

It was reported earlier this month, both in the Portuguese and English press, that the Citizens were leading the battle for the teenager’s signature, but it appears that is not the case.

Mendes has been linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs recently, including Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, but his €70m (£60m) release clause is likely to have put off potential suitors.

The 18-year-old is undoubtedly a very talented young player and City could certainly do with strengthening on the left-hand side of defence.

However, at this point in time, Goal claim Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish are likely to be the main transfer priorities and, considering how much the pair will cost, it is not a surprise they have taken a back seat in the race for Mendes.
