De Bruyne Speaks Out After Breaking PL Record Held By Former Aresnal And Chelsea Player

Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has refused to draw comparisons after breaking a record previously held by former Arsenal and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas.

De Bruyne’s two assists in the 4-1 win over Southampton on Saturday takes his total to 100 in the Premier League. A milestone he reached in 237 appearances, which is 56 fewer matches than it took Fabregas. Asked about the achievement after the game at St Marys, he said:

“I don’t compare. Cesc is an unbelievable footballer player. I don’t compare myself to others. I just try and do the best I can do. People will talk about quicker. Everything is different, you play different positions and teams. We score a lot of goals!”

De Bruyne is currently fifth on the all-time list for most assists, and he could soon surpass both Frank Lampard (102) and Wayne Rooney (103). He is, though, still some way off Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, who racked up 162 during his illustrious career.

Even so, De Bruyne is firmly cementing himself as one of the greatest players of the Premier League era with these records. Considering the midfielder‘s contract at City expires in 2025, he could yet reach even greater heights over the next couple of years.
