The Top 5 Current Favourites For The PFA Player Of The Year Award

As we head towards the closing couple of months of the season, we thought it was a good time to look at who are the frontrunners for the PFA Player of the Year.

There have been a whole host of players who have performed to a very high standard this campaign so there isn’t really a red-hot favourite.

However, the leading candidates on our list do play for only two teams: Manchester City and Arsenal.

Press the next page as we count down the top five favourites for the Player of the Year (based on odds from Sky Bet).

5) Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) – 8/1

The England international has had a superb season for the Gunners.

Saka has hit the back of the net 16 times in all competitions, as well as providing 13 assists.

It is the most goal contributions he has made in a single season so far in his fledgling career and we haven’t even reached the end of March.

The sky really is the limit for Saka, who has the potential to be one of the best players in the world.

4) Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – 7/1

Some City supporters may ask why the Dane has such long odds to win his second Player of the Year accolade in a row.

After all, Haaland has still scored a phenomenal 29 goals, despite being sidelined for the best part of a month with a foot injury.

The fact that his form has dipped ever so slightly from last season may have influenced his position on the list currently.

Bagging so many goals on a consistent basis should not be underestimated, though, and Haaland deserves to be in contention for the award.

3) Declan Rice (Arsenal) – 4/1

Many did question whether the Gunners were correct to splash nine figures on the midfielder.

City themselves were reportedly only willing to go as high as £80m before they pulled out of the running for Rice’s signature.

However, the 25-year-old’s move to the Emirates has worked out spectacularly. He has exceeded expectations with his performances.

Many pundits believe that Rice’s game has moved on to another level, and his influence on matches has kept Arsenal in the fight for the title.

2) Phil Foden (Manchester City) – 11/4

The 23-year-old has arguably had his most consistent season for City to date.

Foden hasn’t quite matched Saka’s goal involvements, with 18 goals and 10 assists so far.

However, he has made some pivotal contributions, including scoring an outstanding equaliser in the Manchester derby recently, setting his team up for a comeback win.

Foden has also popped up with goals in the Club World Cup final and in almost every Champions League fixture.

1) Rodri (Manchester City) – 9/4

The numbers don’t lie when we look at the midfielder’s importance to City.

This season, the Premier League champions have still not lost when Rodri has been on the pitch.

Over a short period, that could be put down to luck but, when you have played 37 times and not suffered defeat, there is more to it.

Rdori has also come up with his fair share of goals and assists (18) to help his team stay in the fight for trophies.
