BBC pundit Garth Crooks has included Manchester City’s Nathan Ake, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva in his ‘Team of the Week’.

Foden’s mazy run opened the scoring in the 2-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday and Crooks feels that he is now producing the sort of form we saw from the 22-year-old prior to the New Year:

“Against Newcastle, Foden once again churned out a performance similar to the kind he was producing prior to the World Cup. Only this time there is no England squad to navigate and mess with his confidence.”

It does look as if Foden has finally turned a corner. He did struggle immediately after the tournament in Qatar, although some of that can be attributed to fitness problems.

In terms of the rest of Crooks’ team, he went with Liverpool’s Alisson in goal, with Andy Robertson and Chelsea centre-back Wesley Fofana joining Ake in a three-man backline.

Alongside Foden and Silva in midfield, Crooks picked Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister and Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, who both got on the scoresheet at the weekend.

Up front, Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson was selected with Liverpool duo Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo.
