Haaland, Pino, Endrick: We Look At Five Starlets Who Have Release Clauses Written Into Their Contracts

Although release clauses are pretty rare in England, they are pretty commonplace on the continent, with even promising youngsters available if a club is ready to pay a suitable fee.

In Spain, it is a requirement that every player has a buyout inserted into their contracts, so it has led to the absurd situation where the likes of Gavi, Pedri, Ansu Fati and Vinicius Jnr all have €1bn release clauses.

We won’t be focusing on any of these in our list today. The youngsters we will mention are all available for more realistic prices.

Press the next page as we look at five starlets with buyout clauses (based on data from FootballTransfers.com).

Rafael Leao – €150m

AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini has confirmed that Chelsea did make enquiries about the Portuguese international in the summer, while ManchesterCity have also been credited with an interest recently.

Leao’s current deal expires in 2024 and, with talks over an extension having reached an impasse, it seems likely that the Rossoneri will be willing to sell him for below his buyout fee.

Paulinho – €80m

No, not the midfielder that used to play for Tottenham and Barcelona, but the 22-year-old who is currently plying his trade at Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.

The Brazilian was recruited for €20m in 2018, but he hasn’t hit the heights expected of him. Nobody will be looking to pay his release clause, though, as he could move on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires.

Yeremy Pino – €80m

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have been scouting the Villarreal winger, and the Yellow Submarine’s manager Unai Emery even hinted that the Spanish club would be willing to sell the teenager.

Pino is a very talented young player but it seems unlikely that any club would be prepared to match his current release clause, unless he has an outstanding season in La Liga.

Erling Haaland – €200m (From 2024)

It appears that Manchester City would be forced to offload the Norwegian goal machine in two years’ time if a team is willing to pay €200m. The only club who would consider doing that would probably be Paris Saint-Germain.

Haaland has only just arrived at the Etihad so he is certainly not contemplating leaving Manchester anytime soon, but it is a situation that fans need to be aware of.

Endrick – €60m

The Brazilian teenage sensation has not even played a senior game for Palmeiras yet but Europe’s elite clubs (including Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool) are all weighing up whether to pay his buyout clause.

Endrick may or may not be the next Neymar but the hype surrounding the 16-year-old is so high that a lucrative move is almost a certainty in the next couple of years.
