Manchester City are leading the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to the Guardian‘s Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his ‘Here We Go’ podcast, the Italian journalist claimed that the Citizens are looking to add a new midfielder to the squad next summer and they have been keeping close tabs on the Swiss international.
City also have the advantage of being on good terms with Zakaria’s agent, Fali Ramadani, who they negotiated with, in their failed attempt to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly. Supporters on Twitter had a mixed reaction to Romano’s report:
I love this boy. He’ll fight with rodri for that spot. And he’s more of a Pogba

I’ve been watching this guy, Declan Rice and Douglas Luiz hoping one of them would replace @fernandinho at @ManCity

Bennacer is great, but probably not what we want. Zakaria is more direct and able to score.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich have also been linked with Zakaria in the German press, but it does appear that City are the team who are the most interested in the £36m rated midfielder currently.
With Fernandinho’s contract expiring at the end of the season, a replacement for City’s captain may need to be considered and it seems they have found their ideal candidate.
