‘Things You Can’t Teach People’ Former Manchester City Star Praises New Transfer Signing

Former Manchester City superstar Shaun Wright-Phillips praised Jeremy Doku after the young Belgian put in an excellent performance in the Citizens’ most recent Premier League encounter.

Wright-Phillips spoke on Doku’s ‘confidence’ in possession and lauded his goal, which gave City a way back into the game after entering the break 1-0 down.

On the goal, Wright-Phillips said that it was ‘almost like he took a deep breath and just passed it into the back of the net’. It was a cool finish – something that is not often seen in wingers of Doku’s young age.

What did Shaun Wright-Phillips say regarding Jeremy Doku?

Speaking on Manchester City’s official YouTube channel, Wright-Phillips said: “It was a fantastic finish. The part that caught my eye was how he got himself in that position.

“The jinkiness, the confidence to unsettle the defence to put yourself in the position where he knows the defenders can’t touch him. Then to have the maturity to look up and not shoot it, just pass it around the goalkeeper and into the side netting.

“Those are things you can’t teach people. He didn’t snatch at it, he didn’t rush. It’s almost like he took a deep breath and just passed it into the back of the net.”

How important is Jeremy Doku to the Manchester City squad?

Even though he has only just signed for the Sky Blues, Doku is already proving to be an excellent acquisition for Pep Guardiola’s men. His electrifying pace, combined with his superlative ability on the ball, make him extremely dangerous going forwards.

He has a startlingly complete skill set for such a young player – at the time of writing, Doku is just 21 years of age. Additionally, he is also very strong on the ball, using his stocky frame to shield it from defenders while marauding down the flanks.

To say he is indispensable to the City setup would be insincere at this stage, given his short time at the club – but the potential he holds seems to be limitless. Certainly, he is one of the most exciting young players the Sky Blues currently have on their books.
