Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has spoken out for the first time after undergoing an operation that will likely end his season prematurely.
The former Chelsea and Bournemouth player took to Instagram yesterday to state that he has been managing a foot injury in recent weeks and he needed to go under the knife to solve the problem:
“This has been such a frustrating season for me. But I have now had a successful surgery on a fracture in my foot, which has been bothering me for months, and I am looking positively to the future! Rest and recover now, see you soon Cityzens and thank you for your support.”
Fans on X have bemoaned the fact that another player is likely to be out for the season, but they wished Ake well in his recovery:

City now have four players who have had surgery this season
Oscar Bobb was the first to require an operation back in August after fracturing his leg. Rodri then needed one after sustaining an ACL injury against Arsenal back in September. Last month, it was confirmed that Manuel Akanji would be out for 8 to 10 weeks after having surgery to repair a torn adductor.
While the Swiss international and (potentially) Rodri could make their comebacks before the end of the campaign, it’s likely that Ake’s season is over.
How many games will Ake miss?
The Netherlands international is expected to be sidelined for 11 league games in total (including the derby against Manchester United). He will also miss the FA Cup quarter-final versus Nottingham Forest.
It remains to be seen whether Ake will be in contention for the FIFA Club World Cup in June. Pep Guardiola’s side will face Wydad AC, Al Ain and Juventus in the group stage.
