Man City Given New Injury Scare As Pep Guardiola Provides Concerning Update On Star Who Missed Burnley Win

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that midfielder Rodri is a doubt for the club’s upcoming fixtures due to a knee problem.

The Spaniard was a surprise absentee from the matchday squad for the 5-1 win over Burnley at the weekend, and asked in his post-match interview about how long Rodri would be out for, Guardiola replied:

“I don’t know right now how the pain is in his knee. He said to us that he was not ready to play.”

City face Monaco away from home in the Champions League on Wednesday night before playing Brentford next Sunday in their last fixture before the international break.

Rodri has picked up several knocks in recent months

It’s fair to say that the 30-year-old has struggled to gain any momentum since making his comeback from an ACL injury. He has had a number of false starts.

A groin issue picked up at the Club World Cup left him sidelined for several weeks, and it meant he missed the start of the new Premier League season.

He then came off early during the 2-0 win over Napoli prior to playing the full 90 minutes against Arsenal. It will be hoped that this latest issue is not related in any way to the ACL surgery he underwent last September.

Latest Man City injury news

Guardiola has five players currently on the treatment table, including Rodri. Abdukodir Khusanov is expected to be sidelined with a foot injury until the Everton fixture on October 18th.

Rayan Ait-Nouri (ankle) and Rayan Cherki (thigh) are said to be in the same boat. There were reports from France suggesting that Cherki could make his comeback earlier than expected but those suggestions have been subsequently played down.

Omar Marmoush was tipped to make his comeback prior to the next international break. The forward has been out with a knee injury since the beginning of September.
