In today’s post, we will be looking at the most successful signings during the reign of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
It has been the most successful period in the club’s history based on trophy wins, and some of the additions to the first-team squad since Pep’s arrival have played a key role in the team’s achievements.
Of course, not every transfer has been successful, but the vast majority have made a telling contribution to City winning multiple Premier League titles and other cups.

The Brazilian made 141 goal contributions in 236 appearances for the Cityzens, which is not a bad return when you also consider he wasn’t always a starter. After 5 and a half years at the Etihad, though, he opted to up sticks and move to Arsenal.
The Portuguese international hasn’t quite lived up to the promise of his outstanding first season when he won the Football Writers Association Footballer of the Year award as well as the club’s Player of the Season. However, he has continued to be a reliable centre-back.
Since arriving from Everton in 2016, the defender has had his fair share of injuries but the fact that, 8 years on, he is still a regular starter for City tells you all you need to know about his ability.
The winger may have left for pasture’s new last summer but he played a key role in winning 4 Premier League titles in his five years with City. 78 goals and 59 assists in 236 appearances isn’t a bad return either.
The Brazilian has been criticised for his shot-stopping ability by some fans but he is the ultimate sweeper keeper. He is (by quite some distance), the best No.1 with the ball at his feet. There is no debate that he could be a pretty useful outfield player too.
While the Spaniard hasn’t spent quite as long at the Etihad as many of the others in our top 10, he is an integral part of City’s current team. Without him, Pep Guardiola’s side have found it tough to win matches in recent seasons. The midfielder will also go down in club folklore for scoring the winner in the 2023 Champions League final.
The Portuguese international is getting close to legendary status with City after having made 343 appearances for the club. He hasn’t quite hit the heights of his namesake, David, but he has contributed massively to numerous league title triumphs and cup wins.
It was a difficult decision as to whether to put the German or Bernardo Silva in our top three. Both have made significant contributions but the former club captain just edges it, having come up with some clutch moments over the years; especially the goal that clinched the 2021/22 league title.
The right-back may have not spent quite as long at the club as John Stones but he has played more consistently and to a higher standard across his seven years at the Etihad since arriving from Spurs. He is now closing in on 300 appearances for the Cityzens.
The Norwegian may have only been at the club for a couple of years but the numbers speak for themselves. He has hit the back of the net 81 times in just 88 appearances, breaking the Premier League scoring record in the process. Not bad for a player who cost €60m.
