Frank Lampard Names Which Striker Is “The Best” Out Of Sergio Aguero And Didier Drogba

Former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard says Sergio Aguero is “the best” striker he has played with.

Due to his long association with Chelsea, and the fact that he was a teammate of Drogba’s for so long, many would assume that Lampard would pick Drogba but he claims Aguero is on a different level:

“I have been fortunate enough to play with great players, Didier Drogba was one I always raved about as an all-round striker, as he gave you everything. But in terms [of being] an out-and-out goalscorer and finisher, Aguero is the best I have played with.”

“He can be quiet for a lot of the game, but then score a winning goal, with any type of goal as well around the box. He is lethal, he is sharp and he’s a very confident lad. He has a certain demeanour in the way he plays and the way he trains.”

The stats don’t lie

If we compare Aguero and Drogba in terms of their goals-to-games ratio in the Premier League, there is only one winner.

The Manchester City legend ended his time at the Etihad Stadium having averaged a league goal every 1.48 appearances. Drogba, meanwhile, averaged one every 2.44 matches.

That means Aguero scored a goal on average in one fewer match for City than Drogba did for Chelsea.

City have a striker who could eclipse both players

While Aguero is an undisputed club icon, his position as the team’s all-time top scorer could come under threat sooner than anticipated.

Erling Haaland scored his 100th goal for the club at the weekend against Arsenal and, if he stays at the Etihad for several more years, there is a good chance that the Norwegian will surpass Aguero for goals both in the Premier League and in all competitions.
