Harry Redknapp Praises “Excellent” Man City Star As He Names Him Alongside Chelsea Pair In His PL Team Of The Week

Former Tottenham and Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has named Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol in his Premier League Team of the Week.

Speaking to football betting site BetVictor, Redknapp singled out the Croatian international for praise after he played a crucial role during the 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday:

“Gvardiol has been excellent in the last few weeks for Manchester City. I still don’t know if he’s better at centre-back or left-back, but what a great athlete he is, he’s got the lot. He was probably City’s best player at the weekend.”

The 23-year-old made a big contribution early on in the game, clearing off the line when the score was still 0-0. Kevin De Bruyne would subsequently secure the points for the home side.

The City defender has returned to form recently

Like most of his teammates, the Croatian struggled in the first half of the season. He made several mistakes leading to goals, leaving many supporters questioning his position in the starting eleven.

However, Gvardiol has managed to find his feet again recently. As Redknapp mentions, he has been deployed as centre-half by Guardiola since the start of April, and that has coincided with 5 wins and 1 draw in 6 league fixtures, recording 4 clean sheets in the process.

Who joins Gvardiol in the Team of the Week?

Redknapp selected Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen in goal after some important saves during the Seagulls’ 1-1 draw against Newcastle.

In defence, Gvardiol is joined by Aston Villa’s Matty Cash, Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen and Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella.

Ipswich Town’s Juilo Enciso, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Villa’s Youri Tielemans make up the three-man midfield, while Redknapp has opted for a front-three consisting of Bournemouth’s Evanilson, Leciester’s Jamie Vardy and Brentford’s Kevin Schade, who bagged a brace versus Manchester United.
