Man City manager Pep Guardiola has said that City’s season “will be a disaster” because of the Club World Cup.
City have had a busy summer so far, signing Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Tijani Reijnders. They have also had to compete in the Club World Cup. Pep Guardiola‘s side are in the Round of 16 of the competition and face a tie against Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
If they manage to beat the Saudi side, they could face the likes of Inter Milan and Chelsea on route to the final. Ahead of the game against Al-Hilal however, Guardiola delivered a worrying message about the impact the Club World Cup is having on his side before the start of the Premier League in August.
Guardiola makes worrying Premier League prediction
The Man City manager is concerned about the fact that his players will hardly get any rest before the season starts due to the Club World Cup.
He told Sky Sports News: “Let’s see what happens after the final. We will rest for the time the Premier League allow us. Maybe in November, December or January it will be a disaster, we are exhausted and the World Cup has destroyed us. I don’t know, it’s the first time in our lives that this has happened. We will see when we come back.”
However, Guardiola did press the importance of focusing on winning the tournament, despite the impact he feels it may have with regards to not allowing his players any rest ahead of the league season.
“I try to relax, enjoy the days here and the good vibes that we have, the competition and we try to win it,” Guardiola said. “The most important thing is to recover and find within ourselves what we were. That’s my main target in this tournament. I want them to feel that this is our path again to be competitive like we have been in eight of the last nine years.”
