Harry Redknapp Hails City Ace As He Names Him In His Premier League Team Of The Week

Harry Redknapp says Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden is looking “a lot more like himself” after he scored a brace in his side’s 6-0 win over Ipswich at the weekend.

The England international struggled for form in the first half of the season, much like the rest of his teammates but, writing in his ‘Team of the Week’ column for football betting site BetVictor, Redknapp said:

“He’s had a strange season, but Phil Foden looked a lot more like himself in that win over Ipswich.”

Obviously, he got a couple of goals, but his overall game was much more like the player we saw last season. I can see him and Manchester City going on a very strong run now.”

Foden has rediscovered his mojo

It has taken the 24-year-old a long time to get going this campaign. Although he had scored in the Champions League, it took him until December 21st to get his first goal of the season in the Premier League.

Foden has been outstanding since then, racking up 6 goals and 1 assist in his last 6 league appearances, including consecutive braces versus Brentford and Ipswich. It is not a coincidence that City’s form has started to improve since he has begun to find the back of the net again.

Who else joins the City star in Redknapp’s Team of the Week?

The former West Ham and Tottenham manager selected Fulham no.1 Bernd Leno in goal, with a back four consisting of Liverpool’s Trent-Alexander-Arnold, Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Bournemouth pair Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez.

In midfield, Redknapp picked Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye and Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert alongside Foden. Up front, he chose Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta who scored both goals in the Eagles’ away win against West Ham.
